Join us in wishing a special happy birthday to the U.S. Navy as we salute all active-duty sailors and veterans.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of Gary Sinise’s first USO Lt Dan Band Concert at Great Lakes Naval Base back in 2003 as Gary & the Lt. Dan Band returned to Great Lakes Naval Base to perform for over 5000 boot camp recruits! This historic concert marked Gary and the Lt. Dan Band’s eighth performance at Great Lakes Naval Base.

“Attending concerts is not a normal part of boot camp,” said U.S. Navy CAPT Kertreck Brooks. “This will be something they will talk about for many years after they leave and say when I was in boot camp, I got to attend a Gary Sinise concert. Not all recruits can say that.”
Gary’s father, Robert, and his Uncle Jerry proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy, and Gary’s father also attended boot camp at Great Lakes Naval Base, giving these trips special meaning for him.

Earlier this month, Gary Sinise & the Lt. Dan Band and Stolen Silver hosted a memorable appreciation concert for veterans and first responders in our new hometown of Franklin, Tennessee. Thousands were in attendance at the annual Franklin Family Day at The Park at Harlinsdale Farm, which also included tons of fun free activities before the concert, including miniature train rides, hay rides, pony rides, and a petting zoo!

“I’ve been coming to Tennessee for a while, and I just really loved being here,” said Gary. “I have a lot of friends here, and I started zeroing in on Tennessee as a perfect place for the family and the Foundation. Once I made the decision to move the family, I called my board up and told them. … Now, we are right here.”

The holiday season is a time of wonder and remembrance. This past week, the Gary Sinise Foundation was honored to host more than 1,800 children and spouses/guardians of our fallen military heroes at our Snowball Express “Disney in December” Event. Over the course of 5 days, these deserving families were given the opportunity to make new memories, experience the magic of Disney World, and connect with the only people who truly understand the healing journey they are on…each other.

The magic began from the moment they arrived at the airport. Our presenting sponsor, American Airlines, welcomed families with fully decorated terminals and planes and American Airlines personnel who volunteered to ensure these families had a wonderful experience as they traveled to Orlando, FL. After arriving in Florida, families were greeted by none other than Mickey and Minnie!

Thousands of people come together to make this the experience of a lifetime. Our wonderful volunteers hosted numerous activities in our lounges, allowing families to form new bonds with each other and create connections that will last a lifetime. We are forever grateful to our volunteers for donating their time and energy to create such a joyful environment for these special families.

First Responders are the heroes of our communities. In the darkest moments of our lives, First Responders are there, rushing towards danger to shield us from harm. We can never do enough to thank these brave heroes or the families who serve alongside them for their service and their sacrifice. Supporting and uplifting our First Responders is an integral part of the mission of the Gary Sinise Foundation. This past week, the Foundation was honored to host more than 1,000 children and spouses/guardians of our fallen First Responder heroes for their very first Snowball Express “Disney in December” Event.
